The 2025 Athena Project Training
Calling all women fencers! Announcing the Athena Project dates for 2025.
Northwest Fencing Center started the Athena Project in 2023 with an astounding amount of interest from athletes and coaches nationwide. The initiative is designed to support athlete development while including leadership and professional development of women and girls as fencers, referees, and future coaches in the Olympic sport of fencing. Our very own NWFC coach, Ioana Doltu, will lead all Athena Project camps, clinics, and training days!
Here are the training dates for 2025:
- March 16: Training Day for Foil & Epee. Register on AskFred.
- May 4 & 5: Adult and Veterans Women Only 3 Weapon Clinic. Regististraton Link
- July 2025: All ages Women Only 3 Weapon Camp. Details coming soon!
The history: Our first camp was for foil and epeeists only; we had over 50 registrations for a weekend camp! The age range was 10 to 70 years old. We clearly had something good. In the summer of 2024, we carved out an entire week for women to come together and collaborate with all three Olympic-style fencing weapons. NWFC and W Fencing invited coaches, National Champions, NCAA Champions & coaches, Olympians, club owners, and mentors to fly to Portland. It was wildly successful, just as we had expected. There are over 400 photos in an album on Facebook; see for yourself!
