Kira Shertz attended an NWFC Fencing camp one summer when she was eight, as part of our “Pentathlon Summer,” which included fencing, horseback riding, orienteering, and swimming. Later that fall, she asked if she could, “Go back to that place with the swords,” and she’s been fencing ever since. Initially trained in foil, Kira found her passion when she switched to epee and began competing. Kira has been recruited to Denison University as a member of their women’s varsity epee squad. A passionate member of NWFC Fencing for Girls, Kira believes strongly in mentorship among athletes to encourage girls to fence. Beyond the piste, Kira is a talented artist and writer, having won national awards in both. She plans to study International Relations, Global Commerce, and German at Denison University.
