Kent Iyoki
2024 LEAVING THE NEST SENIORS
Kent Iyoki joined NWFC at the age of 7 and enjoyed learning foil for the first two years. After moving to Texas with his family, he also started learning epee. He had actively participated in competitions for both epee and foil, but he got to focus more on epee. Since then, Kent has ranked first nationally and won gold in Y12 Men’s epee at a NAC and Summer Nationals.
After he earned his first Cadet national medal when he was 12 years old, he was invited to join the traveling team representing the US.
Kent’s strong achievements continued after he moved back to Oregon. When he was 14 years old, he made it to the finals in Junior Men’s epee at the Junior Olympics, coached by Coach Cody and Coach Simon.
Right after that, COVID hit the world. Overcoming the long quarantine, he was ready to fight on the strips at the competitions once they resumed. He made great achievements in each category of Cadet, Junior, and even Div1/Senior. He also made the world team of Cadet World Championships.
Since Kent was 13 years old, he has traveled to over 20 countries for fencing competitions and training. Starting at Cadet World Cups, he went to Junior World Cups, Cadet World Championships, and even Senior World Cups and Grand Prix where he had amazing fighting experiences he competed with a world #1 ranked fencer, an Olympic gold medalist, and even won against a World Cup gold medalist.
Throughout his fencing career, he has made many memories with many people around the world, starting in Oregon and reaching all the way around the globe.
Kent is delighted that he is able to continue competing and training and remains grateful to NWFC, USA Fencing, and the fencing communities in the world for all their support.
Kent will join the fencing team of the University of Notre Dame this fall. His fencing journey will be continued.
